Inventory Controller

About the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Global Planning/ Supply Chain team at Abcam as Inventory Controller.  This position will operate as a shared service on behalf of all Value Chain teams in the function, acting as the custodian and ‘owner’ of key inventory planning, management and control processes on behalf of the team and in support of both business requirements and customer service.  The successful candidate will interface widely with key stakeholders across the organisation in order to maximise the understanding of inventory performance, drive process compliance and support continuous improvement activities with an implication upon inventory management processes and Abcam’s inventory holdings.


Roles & responsibilities:

  • Act as custodian and ‘owner’ of the Abcam inventory policy on behalf of the business, monitoring and reporting performance to policy requirements, driving compliance and identifying/ executing opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Execute key process steps relevant to inventory planning, management and control, on behalf of Value Chain teams, including but not limited to: product classification management; space monitoring and forecasting; excess management; and product expiry management
  • Contribute to effective inventory reporting and governance, ensuring clear articulation of inventory (macro and micro) and process performance to plan, and agreed countermeasures, at all times
  • Coordinate and drive process compliance on behalf of the function, actively contributing to the further development of inventory management processes, company policy and procedure
  • Contribute to the company Sales & Operations Planning process, ensuring the inventory implications of S&OP proposals and decisions are understood and articulated
  • Maintain effective relationships, operating as required with key stakeholders across organisation and geographical boundaries
  • Contribute to the achievement of departmental and business KPIs, and to continuous improvement within the Global Planning/ Supply Chain team; contributing to, and leading as required, specific improvement activities both locally and cross-functionally

About you:

  • You have experience in a manufacturing/ supply chain planning environmentExperience inventory planning, management and control in this environment would be advantageous, but is not essential
  • You will have a natural attention to detail, enjoy complexity and working with data, possess an aptitude for project management, great communication and problem-solving skills, and an ability to build effective relationships at all levels in an organisation
  • You will have experience working in ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle, in particular with relevant inventory management/ supply chain planning applications
  • You will be a graduate in a relevant discipline or be able to demonstrate equivalent work experience
  • You will value continuous improvement and personal development, being able and willing to pursue professional development opportunities (e.g. ASCM)
  • You will be a solid and capable user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
